Sony boldly chose Astro Bot to lead the PlayStation 5 with the tech demo Astro’s Playroom. This came pre-installed with every PlayStation 5 console to show the power of the PS5 and DualSense controller. It’s clear that gamers love these little bots, and the excitement for them now is that their full-fledged PS5 game, Astro Bot, is coming in a few weeks. Astro’s Playroom is more than a demo as its charm and gameplay shine through to every player.
This is specifically a reference to the first game thanks to the lush setting and the Bot’s crossed arms, just like the cover art for that game. At the very start of Raytrace Ruins, there are some Bots on the right playing Ninja Bots. This was a free add-on to 2013 PS4 pack-in title The Playroom by SCE Japan Studio, which is the originator of the Bots and actually precedes the creation of Astro. In the final shaded section of the level with the long wooden bridge, look down on the left-hand wall to see a Bot on a bike escaping a swarm of Bots.
For instance, in one area, Astro is atop a floating ice chunk attached to a pinwheel. The game’s also loaded with hidden items, which will appeal to players who like to collect trophies or find more to do once they finish a level. Completing levels unlocks rewards, encouraging players to replay. AR Bots is a minigame that places forty robots in the DualShock 4 controller, which can be seen by swiping down on the touch pad in-game. When in LUCK8 -controller view, players can interact with the robots through the controller, utilizing the motion sensor and the buttons.
@Froggydarren I have been watching DF reviews for a long time now, and still find their framerate analysis to be a god send as anything much less than locked 60fps makes me feel ill – literally. I always thought they missed a big trick here, and should have had Astro bot (the game) reveal the look of the Pro at the end of the game – via some sort of super power up for the mothership. They are located high up above at a tree on the hill top just ahead. To reach the tree, progress the level so you end up behind the hill, and use the PS1-shaped clouds and the steps on the rock face to climb up the wall. If done successfully, the Gran Turismo Special Bot and the “Grand Tourist” trophy will unlock.
Astro’s Playroom
And that’s on top of the way it blends some audio Easter eggs into the world that are perhaps best discovered while playing. What’s so remarkable about Astro’s Playroom is that while it’s ostensibly about showing off the features of the PlayStation 5, it’s also a fabulous platformer. Levels constantly throw me new toys to play with that totally change the way the level plays. Later levels include a spaceship (with rockets powered by the adaptive triggers) and a rolling ball (controlled by swiping the touchpad on the DualSense), intermingled with platforming sequences.
Where To Find The Astro’s Playroom Special Bots Including No Escape!
If Astro Bot falls or gets defeated, the level will restart from the latest checkpoint cleared. We hope you are getting ready for a good summer and have enjoyed the last few weeks of gaming news. Many of the bots making up the crew are cameo characters that have marked the PlayStation history.
Around the edge of the main hub area is where you will find the bots from Astro’s Playroom. These will appear automatically once they have been unlocked them; there is no specific importing process or menu screen to go through first. In one level, I run Astro through a rainstorm, and an automatic umbrella pops up out of his head. Through the controller, I can feel raindrops pitter-pattering as the sound of the storm emanates from within. When Astro walks under an overhang, the rain vibrations stop, but the sound of the rain keeps going inside the controller.
The Playroom is a casual video game that is a collection of augmented reality mini-games. Team division (later renamed to Team ASOBI), comes pre-loaded on all PlayStation 4 consoles, and is meant to demonstrate the use of the PlayStation Camera and the DualShock 4 controller. The PlayStation Camera accessory is required to play The Playroom. If a camera is not present, a trailer for The Playroom will be displayed instead of the full game. Firesprite, a studio founded by former employees of Studio Liverpool, worked on the visuals of The Playroom. Adding the PS5 Pro Artifact could be a good excuse for players to return to Astro’s Playroom.
